From a design perspective, the kayak is heavily inspired by the characteristics of the surfski and the design of the surfboard.
Melker Ulvön benefits from the innovative, natural and sustainable premium flax fibres from the Swiss company Bcomp. Less weight, more strength and durability in a sustainable way by using locally grown and renewable flax fibres, this makes Melker Ulvön less harmful to the environment and irresistible. The environment and excellent design and capability now go hand in hand!
Melker Ulvön has been nominated several times, such as Outdoor Product of the Year and Design S.
Most recently, the kayak won the German Design Award 2018 in Excellent Product Design, which is the official and most prestigious design award for Germany, presented by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology - honored by the international design industry and community.
The extended waterline gives Melker Ulvön excellent glide and the highest speed with very little effort.
With the large volume at the front, the kayak offers exceptional performance in catching larger waves and swells.
The playful character of the kayak is evident in the strongly turned freeboards and refined curves, which give the kayak great stability and maneuverability, offering responsive and comfortable carving turns.
Maneuverability can be further enhanced with an optional responsive, retractable rudder, helping to master the most challenging conditions.
The sleek cockpit is optimized for efficient power strokes and rotations, and is further customized for excellent comfort and convenience when entering and exiting, even for taller paddlers.
The adjustable, ergonomic and padded seat in combination with optimal legroom gives you great control in the toughest conditions and exceptional comfort throughout the day.
Two large oval hatches at the rear and front make it easy to pack all the necessary gear and provide ample space for longer expeditions.
The large 7.9-inch day hatch is positioned directly behind the cockpit, where the paddler can easily access a lunch box, camera or extra jacket.
The recessed area on the foredeck, just ahead of the helm station, keeps the water bottle or pump in place – or just out of the way.
The kayak is designed by award-winning design engineer Magnus de Brito, who works closely with the Melker Kayaks design team.
